VINCE NEEL HAND SHAPES 

Hand shaped and glassed right here at home in Ōtepoti/Dunedin. 
On a trip traveling around New Zealand in his van, Vinny found himself at home within a humbling and uncrowded piece of coast line, which also happened to be home to a crew of like minded folk. With the intentions of only staying for a few months, Vinny is still kicking it in Dunnos surfing pumping waves and shaping boards for our locally owned surf shop here in St Clair Dunedin. 

Growing up, Vinny was fortunate enough to have tution from veteran shapers in the realm of what is defined as traditional, or modern-alternative shaped boards in todays surfing world. This knowledged passed down is shown in each board that he shapes, which we describe as authentic peices of contemporary work drawing from the designs’ puriest form. Heres a good way to put it, just because you can play the drums, it doesn’t mean you can play jazz, there's more to it.

" These boards take on elements from a traditional Steve Lis/San Diego fish such as the classic wide outline and swallow, a deep single concave and wide tail block. These elements of the fish give it that quickness and plaining feel that makes them so special. The hard edge also runs further up than normal, allowing water to release off of the board quicker, which helps generate speed.

The modern/modified aspects include a curvier outline, especially in the tail, slightly more pulled in nose, and added rocker. With these adjustments the boards are more forgiving than traditional style fishes, especially in steeper tighter waves.

The boards are glassed with a 6 oz bottom (with an extra 6-ounce patch on the fin boxes) and a 6x4 deck (6 wrapping the rails). 

I recommend using a modern keel such as the Al Merrick keel, futures k2, Christensen keel, or captain fin keel. You could run an upright twin or even a longer based keel all for different feelings, but I feel these modern keels are a good way to keep the drive of a keel fin but with a bit more pivot. "
